Guess Who?

Introduction

Hello Internet, both newcomers and old friends. I'm Jordan, also known as Dyelute, a freelance concept artist & illustrator. I didn't think I'd restart a blog, but it's a crucial tool to share my journey and inspire others.

While I do not claim to be perfect, I will do my best to be transparent and open as I can. Let me give you a little speed boost to what I have done so far!

Reflection on My Art Career Thus Far

Early Beginnings

In 2021, after two years on the road for a mega corporation, I reached my breaking point. Realizing I needed a change, I decided to pursue my true passion: art. Prior to my time at the company I had received my bachelor's degree in Game Art & Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 2013. I had always intended to use my degree; I just had no luck in the job market (three-quarters of that being my fault for not putting in the extra work).

I had always loved doing conceptual work in college and I cannot help myself from busting out my drawing tablet and doodling up some artwork. I knew where my focus was going forward. Within a few months into that year I decided I would pursue my career passions with more focus and stop putting it on the backburner. Thus, in July/August of 2021, I officially filed for a business license under "Dyelute" to begin my Journey towards where I am now.

Significant Milestones

While I may have trouble recounting everything over the past 4 years, I have had the pleasure of experiencing some amazing steps all from the sweat of my own brow;

2021

  • Created my Business

  • Attended 3 Craft Shows in my first year

  • Produced 5-10 products for people to purchase

2022

  • Officially made a profit from some shows in my 2nd year

  • Attended 2 new shows on top of the 3 prior

  • Secured an official freelance position for my business

2023

  • Featured in a newsletter for my local area

  • Attended my first comic conventions and converted over to doing more conventions

  • Officially up to 25 products available for sale from art prints to enamel pins to stickers

2024-2025

  • Attending 6-8 shows a year

  • Converted my website and opened my own online store

  • Secured loyal and wonderful repeat customers at various events

  • Have artwork at a gallery in another town

  • Secured various long term projects and commission artworks

It has been a wild ride so far and I have had the pleasure to experience all the highs and lows of an independent artist.

My Aspirations for the Future

Short-Term & Long Term Goals

My intentions are to continue documenting my path and sharing any knowledge or fun information I gather along the way. I am currently focusing on securing new work clients and networking with industry professionals. I also have projects in the works on helping a comic book come to fruition, a few concepts in the process for an Idle game, and in talks with a regular client about creating illustrations for a zine RPG. I am loving every minute of it. Each project brings new challenges and opportunities to grow

My long-term goal is to establish myself as an industry concept artist and illustrator in video games. I know it is an incredibly competitive field and I feel that right now creating a brand and a name for myself is the best foot forward. I also will keep striving to pursue better mastery over my skills and artistic techniques, both traditionally and digitally. I know they are never perfected but I would like to have a certain degree of skill that people will aspire to.

The Journey Ahead: What to Expect in Future Blog Posts

Behind-the-Scenes Insights

Rome wasn't built in a day, that's for certain. In the future you will see posts reflecting my personal feelings in the growth and change of myself and my aspirations. If not to inspire, it can also let people feel more normal if they are experiencing roadblocks and tribulations in their own path.

Art Techniques

One of the things that I have been fascinated with in my path thus far has been the multitude of interesting and unique things customers and artists have opened my eyes to. Different series of art pieces, collectible Knick knacks, and everything in between. I can help lead someone else down the rabbit hole just as I was.

Guest Features and Collaborations

Eventually I will be getting to a point that I hope to use my platform as a way to spotlight other creatives and businesses in collaborative efforts. I love to look back on pieces of art and projects that I had a hand in and remembering the fun of working towards a common goal. Who knows what new products or experiences I can bring into the world with the help of others?

Conclusion

To wrap it this up I appreciate your time and I invite you to come along for my adventure. Pack your extra potions, sharpen your great sword, and don't forget to feed the owlbear because we are going to be on quite the road ahead. I might need to add or clarify in later posts but for now I think I will light the campfire and rest a while...

Catch you next time!
